Another service that Douglas ARC offers is the Day Treatment
Adult (DTA) Program. This area of Douglas ARC is designed to support adults with lower skill levels.
This program is setup to teach social skills and safety concerns. The Staff in the DTA area have been given the task of not staying at the Douglas ARC facilities. We know that people learn much faster in the community, and the community learns to know us and accept us as part of the community. We make good neighbors.

Once an individual arrives each morning they take a moment to sit down for a cup of coffee,
maybe something to eat and then prepare for a day of activies. Each morning by 10:00 am, our people and staff leave for the morning outing.
This morning outing could be simple window-shopping during the holidays, or maybe a trip to the Wal-Mart snack bar, but it could be a trip in the countryside or a trip to the local zoo.
At noon, everyone returns to the Douglas ARC building for lunch and relaxation.

At 2:00 pm it is time for another outing. Maybe this time the group will go to the aquatic center, or maybe a movie. Sometimes a daylong activity such as a picnic at Slaugther's Ranch is what is needed.
The DTA offers an individual a chance to learn something as simple as how to cross a street safely, how to interact with the community, but, maybe it offers them a chance to experience a life they may have not seen before.
When the weather is bad there is always a craft project to be made and taken home. The goal of the DTA is to keep both the body and mind active.
