The three founding Mothers of Douglas ARC started Douglas ARC's
Mother's Day Cake Auction in 1963. It started with a few well-known people in Douglas baking cakes. Their next-door neighbors would bid on the cakes and the neighbors
on the other side would bid higher. Before you knew it someone bought the cakes and the proceeds went to Douglas ARC.

Currently the Mother's Day Cake Auction is held in the beautiful lobby of the Gadsden Hotel and broadcast live over KDAP 96.5FM.
Both the Gadsden Hotel and KDAP donate their time and space to the cake auction. The auction starts each Mother's Day at 1:00 pm and finishes at 8:30 pm. The 2002 Mother's Day Cake Auction
brought in $21,863.00.

There were over 180 cakes donated and the average price of each cake was $102.00 with the highest cake being sold for $200.00.
There also have been other items donated each year to be auctioned off.
A local jewelry store has donated watches to be auctioned off.

Some great area cooks have
donated complete homemade meals. There have also been signed sports memorabilia donated.
Of course there is always the raffle being held in the lobby where a person can take a chance at luck.
